Steer clear of working with Brock Hutchinson.

I am very familiar with Brock Hutchinson, we were matched with one of his situations through our agency. We spoke with the bm on a Wednesday and things went very well, we knew by the end of the call that it was a match. This was in March 2008 and she was due in July. Brock wanted us to wire his fee which is $8k by Friday, as you know adoption is very expensive and as the bm was not due for several months, we figured there was no rush with the money so we could mail it. Brock called us on Friday night threatening us that if he didn't receive the money by Monday he was going to match the bm with another couple. Personally I always thought it was important for the bm to feel comfortable with the couple she picked. We told Brock that we mailed the check and it would be there by Tuesday. he continued to get very aggressive on the phone about his money. That night myself and my husband were very uneasy about moving forward with Brock and thought about canceling or just giving him half the money. Unfortunately we didn't do either!

Once Brock received his money he disappeared out of the picture completely. One month after the match, we weren't able to contact the bm at all. I had been speaking with her twice a week and then no contact. I called Brock to ask him if he had heard from her, he told us that he had been in contact with her, we found out later this was a lie. One week and a half later we were contacted by the attorney that the bm had changed her mind and decided to parent. I was quite surprised that the bm did not contact Brock as they were in constant contact!

We did not ask for our fee back as Brock said he would match us again quickly. Three months later and we had only been presented with two situations both which disappeared, we found out later the bm's had gone with other agencies and were not Brock's to begin with. Our agency would not ask Brock for the fees back so I did, after several weeks he finally agreed to pay us back half because I cried on the phone! He said that he was keeping the other $4k for his advertising costs. Since then I have done a lot of research on Brock and found out that he advertises in the lowest of places, he charges $8K and spends about 1% of that on advertising. His situations are at the low end of the budget because they are high risk, he told us back in March 2008 that he was working on a website which was a lie, he still doesn't have one and I believe doesn't intend to.

My advice to you is to run as far away as possible from Brock, he is one of those people that should not be involved in adoption, I know that he has had some successful adoptions but he doesn't care about the bm's, he charges a high fee for doing nothing.

Brock is a real estate agent from Sioux Falls SD,unless he recently changed his address.
He is not a licensed agency in Iowa, therefore if he is trying to do placements in Iowa, it is illegal and he knows this because I told him.
He is working wiht Maxine Buckmeier, or so he says.

I just confirmed with a phone call that he still works for AmeriStar here in Sioux Falls.

So what exactly does this mean, he kept $4K of our money, I wonder can we go after him if he is working illegally?
